Subject: 19157/File Objections/Haz.Waste Facility Date: Tue, 10 Sep 1991 15:30:00 -0500 RESOLUTION NO. 19157 A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF OBJECTIONS TO A PROPOSED HAZARDOUS WASTE PROCESSING FACILITY. WHEREAS, the firm of Tri-State Steel Drum ("TSSD"), a Georgia corporation, has applied to the Georgia Environmental Protection Department ("EPD") for a permit to process, treat and store up to 580,000 gallons per day of hazardous waste at a facility located in Georgia on the Tennessee border, adjacent to Hamilton County and the City of Chattanooga; and WHEREAS, the site of the proposed facility is bounded by Chickamauga Creek, located within the 100-years flood plain, primarily accessible by road through the densely-populated areas of East Brainerd, and served by rail which crosses Hamilton County; and WHEREAS, the operation of the TSSD facility would cause the importation of hazardous waste, much of which could be transported through the neighborhoods of Chattanooga, and could also pose a threat to the environment of the region; and WHEREAS, the EPD will receive comments from the public for the purpose of considering whether to approve the application; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF CHATTANOOGA, TENNESSEE, That there be and is hereby authorized the filing of objections to a proposed hazardous waste facility.
